Releasing God’s Power Through Heart Talk

Updated: Nov 17, 2025

By Paula Black — Winning Over Cancer

When I was told I had advanced, terminal cancer — with only months to live — I was faced with a choice: accept what the doctors said and hope for the best, or believe what God said and activate my faith.

That choice changed my life.

How God’s Power Works Through Words

Most people lose their battles — not because God isn’t willing, but because they don’t understand how to release His power. Possibly they believe the wrong things, and often they speak the wrong words.

The Bible says, “You are snared by the words of your mouth” (Proverbs 6:2). In other words, what your speak shapes your results. Words filled with fear will produce fear. Words filled with faith will release God’s creative power.

When I was first diagnosed, my words matched my diagnosis. “I have cancer.” “This is so bad.” “I feel terrible.” Every word I spoke was agreeing with my circumstances and the disease. But as the shock wore off, Dale and I made the choice to change our words to agree with what the Bible really said. I knew that God’s Word carried far greater authority than my circumstances. And I started guarding my words.

Mark 11:23 reminds us that our words carry power. “For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says.

Speaking What God Says

In addition, we read in Proverbs 18:21, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue.”

So, I became determined to speak carefully — and only in agreement with God's promises. Every morning I’d stand in front of the mirror and declare out loud:

  • “By His stripes, I am healed.”

  • “The same Spirit that raised Christ from the dead dwells in me and gives life to my body.”

  • “God’s Word is medicine to my flesh.”

At first, it felt awkward. My body was weak and sick. My emotions didn’t line up. But something powerful began to shift as I kept speaking God's truth. My heart started to believe what my mouth was saying. My faith grew stronger than the fear.

Releasing God’s Power from the Heart

God created the universe with words — “Let there be light” — and He designed you and me to operate the same way. His power is released through words that come from a believing heart.

This is what I call “heart talk.” It’s when your words are not just empty phrases, but living declarations that connect your spirit with God’s Spirit. The more I aligned my heart and mouth with His promises, the more I began to feel life returning to my body.

The tumors stopped growing. My strength came back. I was improving. Eventually, I was completely well — without chemotherapy, radiation, or drugs. God’s Word had become my medicine.

Living in the Authority of God’s Word

Faith isn’t pretending the problem doesn’t exist; it’s choosing to believe that God’s promises are greater than the problem. And choosing to give them authority, rather than agree with the negative symptoms.

When you speak His Word, you are not playing games or begging God to act — you are agreeing with what He has already declared to be true. When a person’s words and heart align with God’s promise, Heaven backs up those words with divine power.

“Forever, O Lord, Your Word is settled in heaven” (Psalm 119:89). Now it’s our turn to settle it on earth — through our faith-filled words.

What You Say Matters

If Jesus appeared to you right now and said, “From this moment on, everything you say will come to pass,” would you change what you’re saying? Most of us would! Yet that’s exactly the principal Jesus gave us.

Your words program your heart for success or defeat. They carry faith or fear — and they produce fruit after their kind.

Speak words of life, health and abundance. Speak God’s promises. Speak victory even in the face of defeat. And consistently take actions that reflect what you believe in your heart.

I’m living proof that God’s Word works. His creative power is still alive today. And it’s waiting to be released through your mouth — one word of faith at a time.

Reflection Challenge

This week, listen carefully to what you’re saying about your health, your family, and your future. Replace every negative or fearful statement with God’s truth. Speak healing. Speak life. Speak abundance. Speak in faith.

Watch what happens when your heart and your words consistently come into agreement with God’s power.

Standing in faith with you,

Paula Black
