Is Your Body Trying to Tell You Something?

When I was diagnosed with cancer, I began asking questions I had never asked before.
Quietly—and sometimes with fear—I wondered, How did this happen?
As I began learning, I discovered that my immune system was no longer functioning the way God designed it to. It had become weakened over time. And that made me vulnerable.
That wasn't easy to accept.
Not because I had intentionally done anything wrong, but because I slowly realized that many of my everyday habits had been working against my health.
Looking back, the contributing factors were surprisingly ordinary. I wasn't drinking enough water and relied too heavily on caffeine. My diet wasn't providing my body with the quality of nutrition it needed. And ongoing stress had quietly become part of daily life.
None of these things happened overnight. They were small patterns repeated over many years. Together, they created an environment where my body became more vulnerable.
Then I learned something that completely changed the way I viewed cancer.
For years, I thought cancer was an enemy attacking me from the outside. Instead, I learned that the cancer in my body was my own cells that had become damaged.
That realization stopped me.
But instead of leaving me discouraged, it gave me hope.
If my body had been created by God with such incredible wisdom, perhaps it still had the ability to respond when given the support it needed.
Psalm 139:14 became deeply personal to me:
"I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; marvelous are Your works." (NKJV)
Rather than asking, "Why me?" I found myself asking a better question:
What changed inside my body that allowed this to happen?
That question wasn't about blame. It became an invitation to understand, to learn, and to make wiser choices moving forward.
I also held tightly to the promise of 3 John 1:2:
"Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers." (NKJV)
I didn't have all the answers then, and I certainly don't claim to have them all now. But I became convinced that my body had not failed me. In many ways, it had been trying to get my attention. It was simply responding to its need.
Our bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit. They are the container of our spirit and soul for our time here on earth. We are in the position to be the steward of our bodies. To keep them operating in health for long life. One of the most amazing parts of my journey through cancer, was realizing I am able to be the primary influencer of my health.
God created our bodies to heal. He gave each of us an immune system to manage the dangers within our body and keep us healthy. I had allowed my immune system to become too weak to do the job it was designed to do, through ignorance and poor choices. Now I was determined to flip the situation in my favor by rebuilding my immune system as quickly and efficiently as possible.
