Do You Believe God Wants You Well?

ree

Over twenty years ago, I was told I had only three to six months to live. Aggressive breast cancer was spreading through my body, and the doctors said there was nothing more they could do. But God had another plan. Today, I am still here—healed, alive, and grateful.

Today I’d like to encourage you by starting with the same question Jesus asked a sick man in John 5: “Do you want to be made well?”

That’s a powerful question, isn’t it? Jesus saw the man’s suffering and didn’t ask how long he had been sick or who was to blame. He simply asked if he wanted to be healed.

The man’s response revealed something important. Instead of saying “yes,” he explained why it wasn’t possible—explaining that he didn’t have help, and others always got into the water ahead of him. His eyes were on the obstacles, not on the Healer who stood before him.

How often do we do the same? When faced with illness or hardship, we focus on the reasons why we can’t be made whole, or don’t deserve to made whole—instead of remembering the authority we’ve been given in Jesus.

Paul’s Example of Overcoming Opposition

The Apostle Paul faced enormous obstacles too. Everywhere he went to share the Gospel, persecution followed. Scripture describes this opposition as “a thorn in the flesh, a messenger of Satan” (2 Corinthians 12:7). In other words, it wasn’t people themselves who were his real problem—or even an infirmity—it was the enemy working behind the scenes to stop God’s Word from spreading. In verse 9, Jesus told Paul: “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” Paul’s response was: Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

When the power of Christ rests upon us, that power breaks every obstacle the separates us from God’s will.

Paul kept moving forward. He stood in the authority God had given him, resisting the enemy and fulfilling his calling.

Jesus taught us the same principle in Mark 4:15 about what happens when we hear God’s word for us: “When they hear, Satan comes immediately and takes away the word that was sown in their hearts.” Satan’s strategy is to steal God’s Word from you before it takes root. But God has already given us the power to stand against him and be victorious.

Authority in Jesus’ Name

Here’s the truth that set me free during my battle with cancer: God has given us authority in the name of Jesus. James 4:7 says, “Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.”

Notice it doesn’t say “ask God to resist the devil for you.” It says you resist. Just like Moses was told to drive out the inhabitants of the land, and just like Jesus Himself spoke directly to the storm to make it stop, we too are called to speak in His authority.

Jesus promised in Mark 16:17: “In My name they will cast out demons…” That means we don’t need to be powerless against sickness, fear, or oppression. We can rise up and command the enemy to leave in Jesus’ name. And if we believe in our heart, that’s exactly what will happen.

My Heart for You

If I sound passionate about this, it’s because I’ve lived it. This isn’t just theory or something I read in a book. I’ve faced death. I’ve felt the fear. And I’ve experienced God’s healing power firsthand. His Word works. His promises are true.

So, let me ask you today: Do you want to get well? If the answer is yes, then take hold of God’s Word like your very life depends on it—because it does. Submit to Him, resist the enemy, and speak with the authority Jesus has already given you. Take hold of the healing Jesus purchased for you through His suffering and don’t let go when satan shows up to steal it. It’s your inheritance.

God truly does want you well. And if He did it for me, He can do it for you.

With love and hope,
